Grand Mound, Iowa was first established following the arrival of the Chicago, Iowa and Nebraska Railroad in 1858, which encouraged settlement and growth in the area. The town was officially platted in 1866. According to local history, the community’s name resulted from a spelling error that was never corrected, as the town was originally intended to be called Sand Mound.
With a population of approximately 642 residents, Grand Mound offers a quiet small-town atmosphere and a strong sense of community.
